Rob O’Neill is a teacher, performer,
choreographer, and director who has worked in the New York theater and
dance community for 25 years. In 1993, Rob began creating and teaching
his own system of physical training for actors, called EMBODIMENT which
combines his modern dance experience with his acting training. He is
committed to the lifelong challenge of developing this unique work with
actors both in his weekly class taught in New York City and at
Universities, retreats, acting institutes, and theatres throughout the
world. These include: Naropa University, University of Rio Grande
Graduate Program, NYU’s Summer Acting Program in Paris, Michigan Tech,
Universities throughout Brazil, Shantigar, A.I.R.E. The Actors
International Retreat Experience, the Actor’s Studio Inc., the American
Stage Network, The Denver Center for the Performing Arts and in studios
and theater centers of Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Los Angeles,
Minneapolis, Philadelphia, and South Carolina. He is an adjunct faculty
member of New York University’s Experimental Theater Wing (ETW).Rob choreographs concert dance, directs plays, and does movement direction for stage and screen. He had the privilege of working with the late Joseph Chaikin choreographing several of his last original works-in-progress including, BODYpieces workshopped and performed at The Public Theater, Still Alive/Teasing Time workshopped and performed at The Mark Taper Forum New Work Festival (LA), and That Tuesday written by Eduardo Machado and performed at The Actors Studio. He choreographed dances for two operas, Dido and Aeneas, and A Little Russian Opera (for which he received a Pathfinders Award). He has done movement work for plays by the Chelsea Repertory Theatre Company. Rob directed two of Matthew Well’s plays, The Mildred Piece (INCOACT) and Donna Paradise (The Double Helix Theater Company) and a new play by The Cross Boundary Theater Company. He co-directed the Apprentice Showcase of the Actor’s Theater of Louisville (ATL). Rob coaches a variety of performers, from actors to opera singers, for auditions, roles, and performances. Rob recently opened an original play, Echo Lake, with performance partner, Patrick Hogan, who is also affiliated with Green Wood Studio and AIRE.
