The last Irish queen sails again on the Saint Lawrence River

Irish-American actress & playwright, Molly Lyons, performs her one-woman play, A Most Notorious Woman, based on the remarkable life of the last great Irish queen, Granuaile, as part of the Saint Lawrence Shakespeare Festival.  The play performs in the Big Tent in the Prescott Harbour, on Sunday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m..

Based on Irish author Anne Chambers’ book Granuaile: Ireland's Pirate Queen, Lyons’ play takes an intimate look at a life surging with passion and pathos, castles and kings, battles and betrayals, prison and politics.

The play has been performed to sold-out houses in NY, Seattle and Colorado in the U.S.; to sold-out houses in Vancouver, Canada and two tours in Ireland which garnered rave audience praise.

Critics have said:
"With passion, energy and a commitment to historical accuracy, Molly Lyons, brings the true story of one of the world's truly remarkable women of history, Grace O'Malley (Granuaile), alive. You will be moved and astounded by her performance."
Anne Chambers, Irish author

“This is a one-woman show at its best … a bold and intimate look at the real life story of a truly remarkable woman … (Lyons’) acting is honest and gutsy, her affinity with O’Malley palpable … Martin Stillion enhances the entire feel of the production with his skillfully rendered Celtic themes … He and his violin are at all times sturdy partners in the action.”
Karyn Lewis, The Coloradoan

“... an actress who fires on every theatrical cylinder imaginable.”
Eric Prince, award-winning British playwright and theatre critic

“Lyons was always so in command and empathetic to the character of O’Malley, reveling in the role.  She took us through various stages of O’Malley’s turbulent life, through many passionate moments, now poignant and now humourous and always fiercely independent and wild for the freedom she found in the western seas.”
Tom Ryan, Tipperary Star

“I wondered if anyone could take on the role of Granuaile with an understanding of why she was who she was and to authentically portray the energy, courage and indomitable spirit that was Granuaile.  Well, these concerns were soon put to rest when Molly Lyons took the stage.  (She) has the very essence and spirit of Granuaile nailed.”
Catholine Butler, Celtic Connection, Vancouver BC
