The last Irish queen sails again on the Saint Lawrence River Irish-American actress & playwright, Molly Lyons, performs her one-woman play, A Most Notorious Woman, based on the remarkable life of the last great Irish queen, Granuaile, as part of the Saint Lawrence Shakespeare Festival. The play performs in the Big Tent in the Prescott Harbour, on Sunday, July 17 at 7:00 p.m.. Based on Irish author Anne Chambers’ book Granuaile: Ireland's Pirate Queen, Lyons’ play takes an intimate look at a life surging with passion and pathos, castles and kings, battles and betrayals, prison and politics. The play has been performed to sold-out houses in
NY, Seattle and Colorado in the U.S.; to sold-out houses in
Vancouver, Canada and two tours in Ireland which garnered rave audience
praise. “This is a one-woman show at its best … a bold and
intimate look at the real life story of a truly remarkable woman …
(Lyons’) acting is honest and gutsy, her affinity with O’Malley palpable
… Martin Stillion enhances the entire feel of the production with his
skillfully rendered Celtic themes … He and his violin are at all times
sturdy partners in the action.” “I wondered if anyone could
take on the role of Granuaile with an understanding of why she was who
she was and to authentically portray the energy, courage and indomitable
spirit that was Granuaile. Well, these concerns were soon put to rest
when Molly Lyons took the stage. (She) has the very essence and spirit
of Granuaile nailed.” Performance is Sunday,
July 17, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.; Tickets: $15. Print Date: Immediate
